Chris Waddle makes prediction about Arsenal and Premier League title
Chris Waddle backs Arsenal to challenge for the Premier League title
Chris Waddle is adamant that Arsenal will challenge for the Premier League title despite a lack of transfer activity.
Arsene Wenger has come in for criticism once again this summer for a lack of signings following three new additions to the Gunners squad.
The Arsenal manager signed Granit Xhaka in a £33m deal from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach at the start of the summer ahead of Euro 2016.
Wenger has also added little-known Japanese forward Takuma Asano and Bolton Wanderers defender Rob Holding to his Arsenal squad last month.
The north London side finished in second place in the Premier League table last season which was their best finish in over a decade.
Former Tottenham midfielder Waddle believes the Gunners will be title contenders despite increasing skepticism around Arsenal’s chances.
“If their top players stay fit for the season then they have got a great chance of winning it, no doubt about that,” Waddle told BBC Sport.
“Their problems will come when they get a few injuries again, which we are seeing already. They don’t seem to have the same depth in their squad as the other leading sides.”
Arsenal will start their Premier League campaign with a home clash against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening.
The Gunners haven’t won the English top-flight crown since 2004 when Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira guided Arsenal to title glory.
