Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Everton v Tottenham

Mark Lawrenson looks ahead to Tottenham's clash against Everton on Saturday afternoon

Mark Lawrenson is backing Everton to hold Tottenham to a 1-1 draw in Ronald Koeman’s first Premier League game in charge at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Spurs are preparing for a return to top flight action after their impressive campaign in the Premier League last term.

The Lilywhites challenged for the title for much of the campaign before then ended up in third place in the Premier League table.

Everton, meanwhile, are bidding to bounce back from the disappointment of their campaign last term, which led to Roberto Martinez’s sacking.

Former Liverpool man Lawrenson is tipping Spurs and Everton to share the spoils on Merseyside on Saturday afternoon.

Writing in his column for BBC Sport, former Liverpool defender Lawrenson said: “Everton are in the process of rebuilding under manager Ronald Koeman, and their signings so far have been positive.

“Tottenham will be looking to kick on from last season but they started quite slowly last year and did not get a win until their fifth league game – I don’t think they will start with a win this time either.”

Tottenham are also preparing for a return to Champions League action this season. The north London side will go straight into the group stage last month after their top-three finish in the Premier League last season.
