Ex-Arsenal striker: Why Liverpool have advantage over Conte and Mourinho
Paul Dickov believes Jurgen Klopp has a head start on Chelsea, Man City and Man United
Paul Dickov believes Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has an advantage over his Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United rivals in the Premier League this season.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager is preparing for his first full top-flight campaign after Klopp was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’s successor at Anfield in October.
Klopp guided Liverpool to a disappointing eighth-place finish although the Reds managed to reach two cup finals, which ended in defeats by Manchester City and Sevilla.
Chelsea, City and United are all under new management after Antonio Conte took over at Chelsea in July, Pep Guardiola succeeded Manuel Pellegrini and Jose Mourinho replaced Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
Former Arsenal and City striker Dickov believes Klopp has a significant advantage over Conte, Guardiol and Mourinho having been in charge of the Reds for almost 10 months.
“I think on Klopp, he’s got a head start because he’s been in there for seven months as well so he’s been able to put a stamp, his philosophy on the club,” Dickov told BetSafe.
“The finals, yeah they ended up getting to, so I think Guardiola, Conte, Haber, I’m talking about Mourinho, they’ve got to go in and start getting their philosophy right all the way through at the club whereas Klopp’s got a head start by being in there already.”
Liverpool will start the new Premier League season with a clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on 14 August.
The Reds haven’t won the Premier League title since 1990 despite finishing in second place in 2009 and 2014.
