Former Everton star makes bold claim about Jordan Henderson and Liverpool
Kevin Kilbane expresses his doubts over Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson
Kevin Kilbane doesn’t believe Jordan Henderson is capable of driving Liverpool to success like his predecessor as captain, Steven Gerrard.
The England international was named as the new Liverpool skipper after Steven Gerrard quit Anfield and move to Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy last summer.
Henderson missed a large part of the 2015/16 Premier League season due to injury as the 26-year-old scored two times in 26 games in all competitions.
The Liverpool midfielder was linked with a potential move to West Ham United in the summer transfer window but the Reds captain has started both of their Premier League games so far.
However, former Everton defender Kilbane doesn’t believe Henderson will prove to be the right candidate to restore the Reds to their former glory.
“Is he going to be a player who drives a team to success? Personally I don’t see it,” Kilbane told Newstalk’s Off The Ball podcast.
Henderson moved to Liverpool in a £20m deal from Sunderland in 2011 under ex Reds manager Kenny Dalglish.
The England man has netted 22 times in 215 appearances in all competitions during a six-year spell at Anfield.
