Garth Crooks has warned Jurgen Klopp that Liverpool will be relegated if the manager persists with Alberto Moreno at left-back.

The Spanish defender endured a forgettable 90 minutes at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon as Liverpool were 4-3 winners against Arsenal in their Premier League opener.

If he keeps Alberto Moreno in the team, he can forget the top four – he’ll get relegated

Moreno conceded a first-half penalty which Theo Walcott missed before vacating his postion to allow the Arsenal striker to make amends with a low finish past Simon Mignolet.

The 23-year-old defender only started against Arsene Wenger’s north London side following James Milner’s injury setback.

While Crooks was impressed with the performance of Klopp’s new signing Sadio Mane against Arsenal, the former Tottenham Hotspur forward warned the Liverpool manager that signing a left-back must be a priority.

“Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is not averse to spending money if the talent is available,” Crooks told BBC Sport.

“Having spent it wisely on Mane, he should seriously think about selling striker Christian Benteke – as he is surplus to requirements – and buying a decent left-back.

“If he keeps Alberto Moreno in the team, he can forget the top four – he’ll get relegated.”

Moreno has scored three times in 91 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool following his £12m move to Anfield from Sevilla in 2014.
