Gary Neville has admitted that he is taking a risk by predicting that Chelsea will not finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.
The former Manchester United defender is tipping the Red Devils to win the title ahead of Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, with Chelsea not featuring in his prediction for the top four.
Chelsea are currently gearing up for their first season under new manager Antonio Conte following the Italian’s appointment as the club’s new boss earlier in the year.
The Blues will not have the distraction of European football this season after their lowly 10th-placed finish last term.
It remains to be seen how quickly Chelsea’s players adapt to their new manager’s methods at Stamford Bridge.
And former United defender Neville admits that he may end up ruing his decision not to include Chelsea in the race for the title.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Neville said: “Everyone is looking at Manchester given the two managers that have arrived and the money that is being spent. It’s intriguing to understand what is going to happen.
“How will pep Guardiola adapt and fix a squad that is set in its ways? In the last couple of years, City have been unreliable at times and he needs to completely change the mentality.
“I’ve not included Chelsea – and that is a risk because they have an experienced group of players who’ve been together and Antonio Conte is a manager who will like a lot of the players in the squad.”
