Glenn Hoddle uses Man United as example to warn Arsenal fans
Glenn Hoddle discusses Arsene Wenger's situation at Arsenal ahead of the new Premier League season
Glenn Hoddle has warned Arsenal fans to be careful what they wish for after some supporters called for Arsene Wenger to leave the club at the end of last season.
The Frenchman found himself under intense pressure last season after the Gunners failed to win the Premier League title and ended up 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester City.
The north London side ended the campaign without a trophy and some Arsenal fans made their discontent with the situation clear from the stands.
Arsenal are now preparing for their first Premier League game of the season when they host Liverpool at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon as Wenger enters into the final year of his contract with the Gunners.
However, former Tottenham boss Hoddle says that the end of Wenger’s reign at The Emirates could bring some fresh instability to the north London club.
Speaking in an interview with Metro, Hoddle said: “There was a bit of pressure at the end of the season and Wenger quelled that – and rightly so.
“I was flabbergasted to see that Arsenal fans wanted to move him on and get rid of him.
“Manchester United made a change with Sir Alex Ferguson who had been there a long, long time.
“It’s much harder to get that decision right as it’s been proved. Be very careful if you move somebody out who’s been there a long time. It’s difficult for anyone who comes in.”
Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in 2003-04.
