Graeme Souness boldly predicts where Man United and Arsenal will finish
Graeme Souness looks ahead to the forthcoming Premier League campaign
Graeme Souness is tipping Manchester United to win the Premier League title in Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils kicked off the new campaign by beating Leicester City 2-1 at Wembley to lift the Community Shield trophy and net their first piece of silverware under their new manager.
Arsenal, meanwhile, concluded their Premier League preparations with an impressive 3-2 comeback win over Manchester City in their final pre-season friendly on Sunday night.
United have not won the Premier League title since 2013 and could face fierce competition from local rivals Manchester City following the arrival of Pep Guardiola at Eithad Stadium.
However, Souness is tipping United to edge the title race and Arsenal to finish in the top four.
Writing in his column for The Sunday Times, Souness said: “When the Premier League resumes on Saturday, I expect to see a title race played out mainly in Manchester, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s arrival perhaps giving United the edge over City.
“The usual suspects will reassert themselves after Leicester City’s triumph last season. I take Tottenham and Arsenal to make the Champions League at the expense of Chelsea and Liverpool.”
United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season, while Arsenal ended up second.
