Graeme Souness not impressed by new Arsenal signing
Graeme Souness says that he is yet to be impressed by new Arsenal signing Granit Xhaka
Graeme Souness is not convinced that Granit Xhaka is the player Arsenal needed to sign this summer.
The Switzerland midfielder is the north London club’s biggest signing of the summer so far, with the 23-year-old joining the Gunners from Borussia Moenchengladbach back in May.
Xhaka will be hoping to make his Premier League debut against Souness’ old side Liverpool when the Reds travel to The Emirates on Sunday afternoon in their top-flight opener.
However, the former Liverpool man says that he is yet to be impressed by Arsenal’s main signing so far after having watched him in action for his country at Euro 2016 in France.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Souness said: “In the Euros, I wasn’t impressed by him. He looks like a steady midfield player. I do like his attitude, he talks a good game, but he’s got to back that up.
“I like someone who comes across as bordering on arrogant, but you’ve got to be able to back it up.”
Arsenal finished second in the Premier League table last season and 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester City.
The Gunners have not won the top-flight trophy since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign, when they were still playing at Highbury.
