Graeme Souness: This is who Chelsea must sign this summer
Graeme Souness has not been impressed by Chelsea's transfer dealings this summer...
Graeme Souness has criticised Chelsea’s dealings in the summer transfer market and says the Blues still need to sign a new striker this summer.
The Blues have thus far only made two new signings since Antonio Conte’s official appointment as the club’s new manager.
Michy Batshuayi became the club’s first signing last month, before he was joined by midfielder N’Golo Kante at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea continue to be linked with a host of players ahead of Conte’s first season in charge in the Premier League but have yet to announce any further signings.
Diego Costa’s future appears to be up in the air after he has been linked with a transfer away from Chelsea in recent weeks.
And Souness has been less than impressed by what he has seen from Chelsea in the summer transfer window so far.
Writing in his column for the Sunday Times, Souness said: “So far, they haven’t backed Antonio Conte with the big signings that would make Chelsea a threat again.
“Nemanja Matic is a better passer and more of a goal threat than N’Golo Kante. They’ve not said: ‘We’re back and having a go’ with their signings, although that could change.
“They need a centre-forward because it sounds like Diego Costa no longer wants to be there. He needs a better year than last year if he stays.”
Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League last season.
