Harry Redknapp: This is type of signing Man United need
Harry Redknapp believes Manchester United still need to make a massive signing ahead of the new season
Harry Redknapp believes Manchester United need to make a massive signing before the close of the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils sacked Louis van Gaal in May after a disappointing fifth-place finish to end the Premier League season despite the consolation of winning the FA Cup at Wembley.
Jose Mourinho was swiftly appointed as Van Gaal’s successor and the new United manager has already signed three players in the summer transfer window so far.
The 53-year-old recruited Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly in a £30m deal from Villarreal before Mourinho convinced Zlatan Ibrahimovic to complete a free transfer to Old Trafford.
Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan was the third of Mourinho’s summer signings after the midfielder swapped Borussia Dortmund for United in a £30m deal.
However, Redknapp believes United still need to land a marquee signing amid reports that a deal for France and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is imminent.
“The top teams, they all need to improve. There’s not one team you can look at now is there? Man United need some players, if they’re going to push on. Man City,” Redknapp told BetSafe.
“They need a massive signing.”
United haven’t won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson stood down as manager in 2013 following a 13th top-flight crown under his reign.
