Arsene Wenger recently confirmed that he is on the lookout for a new defender after Per Mertesacker was ruled out of action for a number of months after suffering a serious knee injury.

The north London side have been linked with a host of players during the summer transfer window but have thus far only signed midfielder Granit Xhaka, striker Takuma Asano and defender Rob Holding.

Now, Italian reporter Giulianelli is claiming that Arsenal have contacted West Brom about the availability of Evans and Swansea about Williams.

Giulianelli tweeted:

Arsenal are now heading back to the United Kingdom after the conclusion of their pre-season tour of the US.

The Gunners finished in second place in the Premier League last season, 10 points behind champions Leicester City in the top flight table.
