The Gunners have been linked with a host of players in the summer transfer window but have thus far only signed midfielder Granit Xhaka, defender Rob Holding and young striker Takuma Asano.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is thought to be on the lookout for a new striker as he prepares his side for their Premier League opener against Liverpool at The Emirates next Sunday.

The north London side were criticised for failing to sustain a Premier League title challenge last season as they ended up second in the table and 10 points behind champions Leicester City.

Now, Italian reporter Giulianelli claims that former Manchester United star Hernandez is emerging as a surprise target for the Gunners, while a move for Alexandre Lacazette is looking unlikely.

Giulianelli tweeted:

Arsenal have not won the title since their famous unbeaten triumph in 2003-04.
