Jamie Carragher comments on new Man United signing

Jamie Carragher gives his thoughts on Manchester United's big-money swoop for Paul Pogba

Jamie Carragher believes that Paul Pogba will be worth every penny of his world-record transfer fee to Manchester United.

The Red Devils finally announced a deal to bring the France midfielder back to Old Trafford on Tuesday morning after months of speculation linking him with a return to the club.

Pogba initially left United to join Juventus back in the summer of 2012 after being deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford by Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, the 23-year-old is now back at United with a reputation for being one of Europe’s most exciting midfielders.

And former Liverpool defender Carragher is expecting Pogba to be a success at Old Trafford following his big-money return to the Premier League club.

Carragher told Sky Sports News HQ: “He will be worth it if he plays well. It looks expensive and it is expensive.

“We should be pleased that he is coming to the Premier League. We have been moaning that Barcelona and Real Madrid take the best players from our league.

“We have got one of the world’s best. Unfortunately he’s at Manchester United!”

He continued: “In the Euros, we were expecting a lot more from Pogba but you can see signs of how good he is.

“When you put the whole package together of the ability he has got, he will be a fantastic player.”

United are currently gearing up for their first season under new manager Jose Mourinho, who led the Red Devils to the Community Shield title on Sunday.

The Red Devils kick off their Premier League season with a trip to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.
