Jamie Carragher says he would love Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to sign Manchester City outcast Joe Hart this summer.

The England shot stopper is facing an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium after he was dropped for City’s opening game under Pep Guardiola, who was appointed as Manuel Pellegrini’s successor earlier this year.

The Citizens eased to a 2-1 victory over David Moyes’s Sunderland side in the opening weekend before City were 2-1 winners against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Guardiola stuck with Willy Caballero for the trip to the Potters as the England number continues to be linked with a potential switch to Ronald Koeman’s Everton side.

However, former Liverpool defender Carragher would like the City number one to make the switch to the red half of Merseyside after ousting himself as a big fan of Hart.

“This has been a difficult period for Hart, following on from his ordeal at Euro 2016, but while it is not going to work out for him at City, I’m sure there will be a queue of clubs keen to sign him before the end of this month’s transfer window,” Carragher told The Daily Mail.

“Speaking as a Liverpool fan, I would love to see him come to Anfield. I remember his performance at the Nou Camp in the Champions League in March 2015. It was unbelievable. He stopped City from being embarrassed by Barcelona with a string of outstanding saves.

“However, I have always believed Joe is just below the elite level required in world football. Some will feel he has dropped down even further after his performances this summer but I would prefer to judge him on his whole career in Manchester, when he has shown himself to be top class.”

Klopp has already signed two goalkeepers in the summer transfer window after the Liverpool manager started his summer spending spree with the £4.7m signing of Loris Karius from Bundesliga side Mainz.
