Jamie Carragher makes bold claim about new Man United signing
Jamie Carragher is backing Paul Pogba to be a huge success at Manchester United this season
Jamie Carragher believes that Paul Pogba has all the necessary ingredients to become the best midfielder in the world at Manchester United.
The France midfielder finally signed a five-year contract with the Red Devils in the early hours of Tuesday morning after being relentlessly linked with a move to bring him back to Old Trafford all summer.
Pogba initially left United to join Juventus for next to nothing in 2012 after being deemed surplus to requirements by Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.
He has since gone on to develop into one of Europe’s most promising midfielders and arrives back at United with the prime years of his career ahead of him.
And former Liverpool defender Carragher is fully expecting Pogba to deliver on the big stage for United in the coming seasons.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Carragher said: “Forget about the money. For all that Paul Pogba is now the most expensive player in football history, Manchester United have not gambled. This is not a transfer that has threatened their financial future. They could afford to break the bank.
“You also need to forget about comparing him to other players who have cost similar amounts. Jose Mourinho hasn’t brought Pogba back to do what Gareth Bale (£87million) or Cristiano Ronaldo (£80m) do for Real Madrid. That isn’t his game.
“What United have done is buy a young man who has the potential and talent to become the game’s next all-action hero. He can become the greatest midfielder in the world and drive his club back to the top.”
It remains to be seen whether Pogba will be involved in United’s Premier League opener at Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.
