Jamie Carragher makes bold prediction about Liverpool’s season
Jamie Carragher has his say about Liverpool's title chances this season
Jamie Carragher believes that the absence of European football could play into Liverpool’s hands this season.
The Reds are currently gearing up for Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge at Anfield after his appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ successor last October.
Liverpool kick off their campaign with a tricky trip to The Emirates to take on Arsenal on Sunday afternoon as they look to get their season off to a positive start.
The Merseyside outfit finished in eighth place last term under Klopp, meaning that they will not play in any European competition this season.
And former Liverpool defender Carragher feels that that could play into the Reds’ hands, as they look to end their long wait for the Premier League title.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports News HQ, Carragher said: “Like Chelsea, there’s no European football for Liverpool next season and that could be massive for their prospects in the Premier League.
“We saw against Barcelona how Klopp wants Liverpool to play in a certain way and it will be difficult to keep energy and pace in the game if you have more games.
“With free midweeks they can go into weekends fully firing with energy and desire to press. That could make it very difficult for the opposition.”
Liverpool mounted a serious title challenge and finished in second place in the Premier League under Brendan Rodgers after having not played in Europe in the 2013-14 season.
