Jamie Carragher reacts to Liverpool’s 4-3 win at Arsenal
Jamie Carragher has his say on Sadio Mane's input during Liverpool's impressive 4-3 win over Arsenal on Sunday
Jamie Carragher singled Sadio Mane out for special praise after he helped to fire Liverpool to an impressive 4-3 win over Arsenal in their opening Premier League game of the season on Sunday.
The attacker, who signed for the Reds from Southampton earlier in the summer transfer window, showed superb composure as he ran at goal and drilled into the top corner to make it 4-1 to Liverpool at The Emirates and net his first Premier League goal for the club.
And Carragher was full of praise for the former Southampton man after the final whistle at The Emirates.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: “With the fourth goal we’ve seen what this player [Mane] brings to Liverpool. It’s just brilliant and it’s what he’s been signed for.”
Reflecting on the game as a whole, the former Liverpool defender continued: “It was crazy at both ends of the pitch.
“It’s great for us to analyse and to look at but there is plenty for both managers to work on in the defensive sides of the game. Liverpool’s front three played very narrowly.”
Arsenal went ahead in the 31st minute at The Emirates thanks to Theo Walcott’s opener just moments after the England international had seen his penalty saved by Simon Mignolet.
However, the Reds drew level on the stroke of half-time thanks to Philippe Coutinho’s superb free-kick into the top-left corner.
The visitors then ran riot early in the second half and raced into a 4-1 lead thanks to goals from Adam Lallana, Coutinho and Sadio Mane.
Arsenal restored some pride as they cut the deficit back down to one goal thanks to strikes from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers, but the Reds held on to take an opening day win in north London.
