Jamie Carragher sends warning to Arsenal ahead of Liverpool opener
Jamie Carragher looks ahead to Liverpool's opening games of the Premier League season
Jamie Carragher has warned Arsenal that Liverpool had the perfect practice for next Sunday’s Premier League opener against Barcelona this weekend.
The Reds were in impressive form as they thrashed the Catalan giants 4-0 at Wembley on Saturday afternoon in what was their final pre-season game ahead of the start of the Premier League campaign next weekend.
Liverpool will now turn their attentions towards preparing for the new campaign and their tricky trip to The Emirates to take on Arsenal next Sunday.
However, former Liverpool defender Carragher feels that the Reds have been afforded the perfect warm-up for that game by beating Barcelona at Wembley.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Carragher said: “Today was great practice for playing Arsenal, a similar type of team.
“But Liverpool’s first three games are away from home before the first international break [and] I think that’s how you usually set up away from home with counter attacks.
“One of them is Burnley, Liverpool might have more possession in that game but the Tottenham one after that is going to be a difficult game so it’s a very tough start with three away games because the new stand isn’t quite finished. So I think today was fantastic practice before those opening games.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season after Jurgen Klopp’s appointment as the club’s new manager back in October.
Arsenal, meanwhile, ended up second and were widely criticised for failing to sustain a title challenge.
