Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea manager Antonio Conte still needs to sign a new centre-half and a new striker.

The Blues made a winning start to their Premier League campaign on Monday night thanks to Diego Costa’s late winner in a 2-1 victory over West Ham United at Stamford Bridge.

I’m not sure how far Zouma is from getting fit. I still think they could do with a centre-back

Chelsea appointed Conte as their new manager earlier this year and the former Juventus boss took over the reins following this summer’s Euro 2016 tournament.

The ex-Italy head coach has already signed Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi and Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante in the summer transfer window.

But former Liverpool defender Carragher reckons Chelsea are still short on attacking options and could require centre-half cover for Kurt Zouma.

Asked if Chelsea need to strengthen, Carragher told Sky Sports: “I think so.

“They’re looking for a striker, I mentioned Lukaku before, but I’m thinking at the other end of the pitch, maybe a centre-back as well.

“I’m not sure how far Zouma is from getting fit. I still think they could do with a centre-back. It’s something they need to address and it was a big problem for them last year.”

Eden Hazard broke the deadlock against the Hammers after the Belgium international scored a second-half penalty for the west London side.

However, veteran Wales defender James Collins levelled with 12 minutes remaining to leave Conte facing a draw in his first competitive game in charge.
