Jamie Carragher: This is who Liverpool need to sign this summer
Jamie Carragher discusses Liverpool's remaining transfer business this summer
Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool must sign a new left-back during the summer transfer window.
The Reds prepared for the new Premier League season in style by thrashing Barcelona 4-0 at Wembley in their final warm-up game for the new campaign.
Jurgen Klopp has already been extremely busy in the summer transfer window, bringing in seven new players ahead of his first full season in charge at Anfield.
But former Liverpool defender Carragher has earmarked the left-back position as one that needs further strengthening before the start of the season.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s win over Barcelona, Carragher said: “I think defensively, yes [Liverpool need to strengthen].
“I think the left back area is certainly something that hopefully someone will be coming in after the young lad at Leicester has not come off.
“But James Milner is playing there and I thought James Milner for 35-45 minutes – I mean the challenge he made in the first half to stop a certain goal – he played very well there.
“But I think you want to be going into the season with one recognised left back. I’ve been critical of Alberto Moreno but hopefully he’ll improve as he’s obviously older a little bit more mature, working with Jurgen Klopp he will improve but it certainly the one area Liverpool need to improve.”
Liverpool are now preparing to kick off their Premier League campaign with a tricky trip to The Emirates to take on Arsenal on Sunday.
The Gunners finished second in the table last term, while Klopp’s side ended up in eighth place following his appointment as the club’s new manager back in October.
