Jamie Carragher: This new Liverpool signing really important for Jurgen Klopp
Jamie Carragher is a big fan of Liverpool signing Ragnar Klavan
Jamie Carragher believes Ragnar Klavan is proving a really important signing for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Estonia captain completed a £5m move to Liverpool from Bundesliga side Augbsurg last month as Klopp looked to strengthen his defensive options ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
Liverpool are facing a slight headache at the back with Mamadou Sakho sidelined with injury and new signing Joel Matip working on his fitness following a problem during pre-season.
Klavan impressed alongside Croatia international Dejan Lovren during Liverpool’s pre-season tour of United States as the Reds lost to Chelsea and AS Roma but beat AC Milan before a 4-0 victory over La Liga side Barcelona.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher is impressed with the Estonian skipper as the Reds look to improve on last season’s eighth-place finish in the Premier League.
“”Ragnar Klavan has done really well since he has come in. With Kolo Toure leaving and the situation with Sakho, that is really important,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“Joel Matip has been injured, but Klavan has performed better that we saw from Matip in the pre-season games so I expect him to start alongside Dejan Lovren.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table after Klopp took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in October.
The Reds haven’t won the top-flight title in 1990 despite finishing twice in 2009 and 2014.
