Jamie Carragher: This new Liverpool signing will prove great value
Jamie Carragher believes Sadio Mane will prove a good Liverpool signing
Jamie Carragher is confident Sadio Mane’s £34m transfer fee represents good value after the Liverpool forward’s impressive goal in Sunday’s 4-3 victory over Arsenal.
The Senegal international was Jurgen Klopp’s second purchase of the summer as the 24-year-old became one of the most-expensive signings in the club’s history following a move from their Premier League rivals Southampton.
Mane starred in Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over La Liga giants and Champions League holders Barcelona at Wembley earlier this month.
And the African continued his excellent form in Liverpool’s Premier League opener at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The summer signing scored a brilliant solo goal to net the Merseyside outfit’s fourth goal of the game and seal three points in north London.
And former Liverpool defender Carragher believes Mane is already silencing those who questioned the size of his transfer fee with his influential performances for Klopp.
“He was bought very early on and I think people raised eyebrows at the fee,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“The longer we go on and the closer we get to the end of August, people might think it was a fair price and a good deal.
“He is exactly what Liverpool needed.”
Mane scored 21 times in 67 games over two seasons for Southampton after he moved to St Mary’s from Swiss side Red Bull Salzburg.
Liverpool will travel to Burnley in their next Premier League game at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.
