Jamie Carragher: What Sadio Mane will fix about Liverpool
Jamie Carragher is impressed with new Liverpool signing Sadio Mane
Jamie Carragher believes Sadio Mane will pose a bigger threat from attacking midfield positions ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Arsenal at The Emirates on Sunday evening.
The Senegal international completed a £30m move to Liverpool from Southampton last month as the forward became Jurgen Klopp’s second signing of the summer transfer window.
Mane scored 11 goals in 37 Premier League appearances for the Saints last term, taking his tally to 21 goals in the English top flight during two seasons at St Mary’s.
Only Brazil midfielder Roberto Firmino hit double figures in the Liverpool side last season after his £29m move from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim under Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher is excited about the signing of Mane as the Reds look to secure a return to Champions League football this season.
“Sadio Mane is a very good signing. He can play in any of the four positions in attack and it looks like he will play on the right for Liverpool,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“They lacked pace and goals from those attacking midfield positions last year but his record suggests he will fix that.”
Liverpool have made seven signings in the summer transfer window as Klopp looks to put his stamp on the Reds squad ahead of his first full season in charge at Anfield.
The 18-time English champions lost to Manchester City and Sevilla in cup finals last term.
