Jamie Redknapp heaps praise on Eric Bailly after the defender's performance in Sunday's 3-1 victory over Bournemouth

Jamie Redknapp says Eric Bailly looks excellent value for money after the Manchester United centre-half’s impressive performance in Sunday’s 3-1 victory at Bournemouth.

The Red Devils eased to their first Premier League victory under Jose Mourinho after goals from Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Vitality Stadium.

However, Mourinho’s first signing of the summer Eric Bailly scooped Sky Sports’s man of the match award ahead of Ibrahimovic after a composed performance alongside Daley Blind.

Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Redknapp heaped praise on the Ivory Coast international following his first Premier League appearance on the south coast.

“I was so impressed with this guy. He is a rough diamond. He will mistakes,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“I watched his first game against Wigan and I thought he has a lot to work on. He is a midfielder’s dream because he can also play. He has great pace and he is uncompromising. Man United fans will love him. He is a very good defender. He could be money well spent.”

The 20-time English champions paid £30m for the Ivory Coast defender after Mourinho made the Villarreal centre-half is first signing of the summer.

United ended the weekend in first place after their 3-1 victory over Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side ahead of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City outfit.

Mourinho’s men are in action against Southampton in their next Premier League fixture at Old Trafford on Friday night.
