Jamie Redknapp: I can’t wait to watch this Liverpool player this season
Jamie Redknapp praises Liverpool's signing of Sadio Mane from Southampton
Jamie Redknapp has admitted that he cannot wait to see Sadio Mane in action for Liverpool this season.
The winger signed for the Reds earlier in the summer from Southampton as Jurgen Klopp moved quickly to bolster his attacking options ahead of his first full season in charge at Anfield.
Mane will be hoping to be involved when Liverpool kick off their Premier League campaign with a tricky trip to The Emirates to take on Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp has singled out the 24-year-old Senegal international as one of his players to watch ahead of the 2016-17 Premier League campaign.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “Mane caused so many problems playing for Southampton against Liverpool that I’m not at all surprised they have signed him.
“The winger will have to justify his £30m fee but he gets fans out of their seats — just look at when he broke Robbie Fowler’s record for the fastest Premier League hat-trick.
“Liverpool have been crying out for someone who can go past people and put in good crosses. Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho want the ball to feet but Mane can give Liverpool a different dimension running in behind with his blistering pace.”
Liverpool finished eighth in the Premier League table last season after Klopp was brought in as Brendan Rodgers’ successor at Anfield last October.
The Reds will be focusing on domestic affairs this season after missing out on a place in Europe.
