Jamie Redknapp raises questions over Arsenal’s attempts to sign France striker
Jamie Redknapp asks why Arsenal haven't got a deal for Alexandre Lacazzette completed
Jamie Redknapp says Arsenal have paid the price for trying to haggle with Lyon over a deal for Alexandre Lacazzette after Sunday’s 4-3 defeat by Liverpool.
The Gunners made a losing start to their Premier League campaign despite Theo Walcott giving the home side a first-half lead at the Emirates Stadium.
Philippe Coutinho’s double and goals from Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane put Liverpool out of reach despite efforts from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calum Chambers.
Arsene Wenger has only signed three players in the summer transfer window but hasn’t added a top-class centre-forward to his squad despite signing Japanese starlet Takuma Asano.
Lyon confirmed that they had rejected an offer from Arsenal for Lacazzette earlier this summer, with the north London still rumoured to be interested in the striker.
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Redknapp has questioned Arsenal’s transfer tactics, urging the Gunners to get a deal over the line for the Frenchman.
“They’re waiting trying to negotiate the fee,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“If you had him [against Liverpool] and had the deal wrapped up, he could have come on and made the difference. But they always seem to be waiting. There is an element of frustration about that.”
Arsenal will make the trip to Premier League champions Leicester City in their next Premier League on Saturday evening.
