Jamie Vardy comments on Riyad Mahrez’s future amid Arsenal transfer link

Jamie Vardy would love to see Riyad Mahrez commit his future to Leicester City beyond the summer

Jamie Vardy has admitted that he would be thrilled to see Riyad Mahrez commit his future to Leicester City and ignore the reported interest from Arsenal this summer.

The PFA player of the year has been touted as a possible target for Arsene Wenger’s men in recent weeks as the Gunners look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.

Vardy himself turned down the opportunity to join Arsenal in the summer transfer window by signing a new contract with the Premier League champions earlier in the summer.

And the striker admits that he would love to see Mahrez follow suit – although he admits that he will not have any say in the matter.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN FC, Vardy said: “It would be brilliant for the club [if Mahrez stayed] but, like you say, it is nothing to do with me.

“There’s nothing I can do, so we will have to wait and see what the club do.”

Arsenal finished second in the Premier League table last season, 10 points behind champions Leicester City.
