Johnny Giles: This is where Jose Mourinho should play new Man United signing
Johnny Giles discusses Paul Pogba's best position for Manchester United
Johnny Giles believes Jose Mourinho needs to play new Manchester United signing Paul Pogba in a number ten role.
The Red Devils completed a world-record move for the 23-year-old box-to-box midfielder earlier this week ending months of speculation linking United with a move for Pogba.
The France international is expected to line up in central midfield for Mourinho’s side after fulfilling such a duty for Didier Deschamp’s les Bleus outfit during their Euro 2016 campaign.
Pogba scored eight times and made 12 assists for Juventus in 35 games last season as the midfielder helped Massimiliano Allegri’s men with a fifth successive Serie A title.
Former Republic of Ireland and United midfielder Giles believes Pogba is better suited to playing a role similar to Eric Cantona in the United side as opposed to a more defensive-minded position.
“He needs a free role like Eric Cantona had when he was there,” Giles told Newstalk.
Pogba moved to Juventus from United in an £800,000 deal in 2012 after failing to secure a regular starting spot in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side at Old Trafford.
The France midfielder won four consecutive Serie A titles during his stay in Turin.
