Jose Mourinho makes honest admission about Man United opener
Jose Mourinho admits that he felt nervous ahead of Manchester United's Premier League opener against Bournemouth
Jose Mourinho has admitted that he suffered from pre-match nerves before Manchester United’s opening day 3-1 win over Bournemouth.
The Portuguese coach took charge of his first Premier League game as United boss on Sunday afternoon and watched his side cruise to a comfortable victory thanks to goals from Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Mourinho is one of the most decorated managers in the Premier League after having won title across Europe during a glittering career.
However, all of that experience did not prevent Mourinho from feeling nervous before the kick-off on the south coast on Sunday afternoon.
Asked if he felt nervous before the game, Mourinho told BT Sport: “To be honest, before the match a little bit, yes, but to have that feeling is normal.
“I’ll never forget one day I came to Old Trafford with Real Madrid, and before the match I was asking Sir Alex Ferguson, ‘Are you still nervous?’ – ‘yes’.
“So I understood – never change.”
The former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss is now preparing his side for their next Premier League game against Southampton at Old Trafford on Friday night in what will be his first home match in charge in the top flight.
Mourinho has been tasked with steering United to their first title since the 2012-13 season.
