Jurgen Klopp’s two-word reply when asked if Liverpool star will face Arsenal
Jurgen Klopp discusses Daniel Sturridge's latest injury setback ahead of Liverpool's trip to Arsenal
Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he has no idea whether Daniel Sturridge will be fit for Liverpool’s Premier League opener at Arsenal on Sunday.
The England striker missed Liverpool’s last two pre-season games against Barcelona and Mainz with a hip injury and is now a doubt for the trip to The Emirates next weekend.
Sturridge has struggled with a host of injuries in recent seasons and news of his latest setback will come as a blow to Liverpool.
However, Klopp refused to confirm or deny whether Sturridge is likely to be available for the trip to north London next weekend.
Speaking at his post-match news conference after Sunday’s 4-0 pre-season friendly defeat by Mainz, Klopp was asked in one word whether Sturridge is likely to be fit to face Arsenal.
His reply was: “No idea. That’s a two-word answer!”
Liverpool finished eighth in the Premier League table in Klopp’s first season in charge at Anfield, while Arsenal were second.
