Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update after Liverpool loss
Arsene Wenger delivers the latest Arsenal injury news after the Gunners' 4-3 loss to Liverpool on Sunday
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Aaron Ramsey was forced off with a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s 4-3 loss to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Wales international midfielder pulled up in the second half and had to come off during Arsenal’s opening Premier League game of the season.
Ramsey’s substitution also followed Alex Iwobi’s withdrawal in the second half, with the Nigeria midfielder also suffering from a muscular problem.
Speaking in his post-match news conference after the game, Wenger confirmed that both Ramsey and Iwobi had suffered muscle injuries but the Gunners do not yet know how serious the problems are.
Asked about Ramsey’s injury, Wenger replied: “[It is a] hamstring. I don’t know [how bad the injury is], I haven’t spoken to the medical people.”
And asked about Iwobi, Wenger added: “It’s a thigh.”
Wenger was then asked whether he was likely to risk playing Laurent Koscielny, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud for next weekend’s trip to Leicester City.
He replied: “We will try, but when they have not enough preparation they get injured.”
He continued: “You are in a Catch-22 situation with the Euros – do you give the players a rest and start the season without many of your players? Or do they play in this kind of game and get injured, like Ramsey today?”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season, 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester City.
