Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Liverpool opener
Arsene Wenger delivers the latest Arsenal injury update ahead of next Sunday's Premier League opener against Liverpool
Arsene Wenger has revealed that Mesut Ozil, Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud are all set to miss Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Liverpool on 14 August due to their extended summer breaks.
The trio have only returned to London Colney to begin their pre-season preparations in recent days following their involvement in Euro 2016 with their respective national teams.
Wenger is currently gearing his side up for their crunch Premier League opener against Jurgen Klopp’s men at The Emirates next weekend as the new season kicks off.
However, the Frenchman has revealed that Sunday’s game will come “too soon” for Ozil, Koscielny and Giroud.
The Arsenal manager also revealed in his most recent news conference that defender Per Mertesacker is set to be sidelined for at least four months with a knee injury.
And the Gunners boss also said that Jack Wilshere’s injury is not serious, and that the midfielder will return to training in the coming days.
Wenger said of Wilshere: “Jack has started running again today. He will train next week.”
Arsenal finished second in the Premier League last season, 10 points behind champions Leicester City.
