Mourinho delivers latest Man United injury update ahead of Leicester clash
Jose Mourinho confirms that both Chris Smalling and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are fit for Manchester United's clash with Leicester on Sunday
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that both Chris Smalling and Timothy Fosu-Mensah returned to Manchester United training ahead of the Community Shield clash with Leicester City at Wembley on Sunday.
The Red Devils are currently gearing up for their first competitive game under their new manager following his appointment as the club’s boss back on May.
Defenders Smalling and Fosu-Mensah both missed United’s recent games against Everton and Galatasaray – but Mourinho seemed to imply that both were in contention to feature against the Foxes at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference, Mourinho said of the pair: “They are fine now.
“They have recovered and they are training with the group as normal, so they are fine.
“Everybody needs minutes – that is the reality. We had so little time to play and Smalling is a player who has not even played one minute, but it is a little bit the same for everyone.”
United head into the game looking to win their first trophy under new manager Mourinho by denying the Premier League champions.
The Red Devils moved quickly to bring in Mourinho as the club’s new manager on a three-year contract back in May following the sacking of Louis van Gaal.
United finished fifth and won the FA Cup last season under the Dutchman.
