Liverpool considering offer for Barcelona defender – report
Liverpool are interested in signing former Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen from Barcelona, according to reports in Spain
Liverpool have tabled an offer for Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen, according to reports in the Spanish media.
AS English are reporting that the Reds are interested in signing the Belgium international as Jurgen Klopp looks to ease his defensive crisis ahead of the new Premier League season.
Vermaelen, who is comfortable playing at centre-half and left-back, has endured an injury-hit spell at Barcelona following his move to the Catalan side from Arsenal in 2014.
Klopp has been one of the most active managers in the Premier League this summer after recruiting seven new players for his squad ahead of the 2016/17 season.
The Liverpool boss started his summer spree with the £4.7m signing of Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius before Sadio Mane swapped Southampton for Liverpool in a £30m deal at the start of July.
Klopp completed a £5m deal for Augsburg and Estonia defender Ragnar Klavan before the Reds signed veteran goalkeeper Alex Manninger and Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum on the same day.
Marko Grujic and Joel Matip have also linked up with the Liverpool squad after agreeing deals earlier this year.
