Liverpool midfielder: What I can talk to Steven Gerrard about
Emre Can discusses his friendship with former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard
Emre Can says he values his friendship with Steven Gerrard after the midfielder met with the former Liverpool captain to discuss football and life in Los Angeles.
The Germany international was afforded an extended break this summer after the 23-year-old helped Joachim Low’s side reach the last four of the European championship.
Although Can was giving a starting berth for their semi-final clash against hosts France, the Liverpool midfielder was powerless to prevent Germany from suffering a 2-0 defeat.
The former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder played with Gerrard for one season before the retired England skipper joined Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy last summer.
However, Can got the chance to catch up with Gerrard in LA last week ahead of Liverpool’s 2-0 win against AC Milan in a pre-season friendly at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara on Saturday evening.
And the Germany star explained why he considers Gerrard to be a good friend following their meeting Stateside.
“I met him in LA and we went for lunch. It’s always great to see Stevie,” Can told Liverpool’s website.
“It’s an honour to know him and it was an honour to have lunch with him. You can always speak with him about football and life. He’s a very good guy.”
Can scored two goals in 49 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool last season after emerging as a key player for Jurgen Klopp.
