Matt Le Tissier makes bold claim about Chelsea and Antonio Conte
Matt Le Tissier believes Antonio Conte can guide Chelsea to title glory
Matt Le Tissier is backing Antonio Conte to lead Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The former Juventus defender took over the reins at the west London club earlier this summer after Chelsea finished in a disappointing tenth place in the Premier League last term.
Conte has already made some significant improvements to his squad after Chelsea completed a £34m deal for Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi from Ligue 1 side Marseille.
The Blues have also signed France midfielder N’Golo Kante in a £30m deal from Premier League champions Leicester City.
Former Southampton midfielder Le Tissier believes Conte is capable of getting the best out of his Chelsea squad and leading the Blues to a fifth Premier League title this season.
“I just think there’s a big advantage in not playing European football, and that certainly works in favour of both Chelsea and Liverpool,” Le Tissier told Sky Sports.
“I was also very impressed with how Conte got so much out of a very average Italy team at Euro 2016. That’s what Chelsea need after struggling to motivate themselves after winning the previous title.”
Chelsea won their Premier League title at a canter under Jose Mourinho in 2015 before finishing in tenth place just 12 months later under Guus Hiddink.
Conte has won three major trophies in his managerial career so far and has a career win percentage of 56.
