Matteo Darmian has taken to social media to reveal his delight at seeing his Manchester United team-mates kick off the season by winning the Community Shield at Wembley.

The Italian defender was not included in the matchday squad after he only recently returned to Carrington for pre-season training.

However, the full-back was suited and booted as he travelled to Wembley to watch his team-mates beat Leicester City 2-1 in north London.

And the Italy international seemed to be in high spirits as he posed for a picture with the trophy in the Wembley dressing room after the game.

Darmian posted the picture above on his personal Instagram account on Sunday night and wrote: “Amazing start!! #mufc @manchesterunited”

Manchester United took the lead thanks to Jesse Lingard’s impressive solo goal in the first half.

However, the Premier League champions fought back and equalised thanks to Jamie Vardy’s strike seven minutes after half-time.

But Zlatan Ibrahimovic had the final say when he headed home eight minutes from time to hand United the first trophy of the Jose Mourinho era.
