Mesut Ozil’s latest comments may worry Arsenal fans

Mesut Ozil discusses Arsenal's summer transfer dealings ahead of the new Premier League season

Mesut Ozil has suggested that Arsenal may be falling behind in the transfer market this summer.

The Gunners have so far only signed Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding and Takuma Asano this summer as Arsenal fans continue to wait to see whether Arsene Wenger will bring in any fresh reinforcements ahead this summer.

Arsenal have been linked with a host of Europe’s top players this summer but the Gunners are yet to bring in any fresh faces ahead of the start of the Premier League season this weekend.

Meanwhile, the north London club’s rivals have been on a summer recruitment drive, with Manchester United securing their fourth signing in the form of Paul Pogba earlier this week, as Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea also added to their squads.

Ozil admits that the final decision to bring in new players rests with Wenger and the Germany playmaker says that he is only focusing on his own game ahead of the new campaign.

Speaking in an interview with Spox, Ozil said: “This decision is not with me, but the coach and the management.

“Of course, we all watch as the other teams strengthen and get [to a higher level] in the league.

“But it’s not my job to occupy myself with it. I want to play my football and the team as best I can help.”
