Morgan Schneiderlin: What Jose Mourinho has told Man United about Community Shield
Morgan Schneiderlin talks up the importance of Manchester United's Community Shield clash with Leicester
Jose Mourinho has stressed the importance of winning Sunday’s Community Shield clash to his Manchester United players, Morgan Schneiderlin has revealed.
The Red Devils are gearing up for their first competitive game under their new manager following his appointment as the club’s new manager back in May.
Mourinho’s Chelsea side lost the Community Shield game 1-0 to Arsenal last season and went on to endure a disastrous campaign.
And United midfielder Schneiderlin has revealed how the new man in charge at Old Trafford has underlined the importance of beating Leicester City at Wembley on Sunday.
Speaking in an interview with MUTV, Schneiderlin said: “It’s a serious trophy.
“The manager has made us aware of the fact that he wants to win it. So we know that it is very important.
“We are playing the champions of England. We want to show we are there and we are ready to go in the Premier League. What better way to start than by lifting a trophy?”
United moved quickly to appoint Mourinho as the club’s new manager on a three-year contract back in May after opting to sack Louis van Gaal at the end of last season, following their FA Cup triumph.
The Red Devils kick off their Premier League campaign with a clash against Bournemouth on the opening weekend of the season.
