New Liverpool signing is already proving himself, says Mellor
Neil Mellor has been very impressed by what he has seen from Sadio Mane so far at Liverpool
Neil Mellor believes that Sadio Mane has already shown the work ethic and commitment needed to enjoy a successful first season at Liverpool.
The Senegal international joined the Reds from Southampton earlier in the summer as Jurgen Klopp moved quickly to bolster his attacking options ahead of his first full season in charge at Anfield.
The 24-year-old has shown plenty of promise during Liverpool’s pre-season games as the Reds prepare for the 2016-17 campaign.
And former Liverpool star Mellor feels that Mane has all of the ingredients needed to be a success with the Merseyside outfit after being particularly impressed by his work ethic.
Speaking in an interview with Liverpool’s website, former Red Mellor said: “He seems to have settled in to Liverpool in pre-season.
“He has an idea, having worked with Jürgen Klopp and the players, what his role is going to be within the team. He has predominantly been out on the right hand side.
“He is going to offer goals, but it’s that teamwork ethic that he will really bring to Liverpool this season.
“There’s no question Mane will create and score many goals this season. But it’s the defensive side of the game which shows his work-rate. It’s paramount for a team.”
Liverpool finished eighth in the Premier League last season following Klopp’s appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ successor back in October.
The Reds will kick off the new season with a tricky trip to The Emirates to face Arsenal – who finished second last season – on 14 August.
