Paul Merson boldly predicts where Arsenal and Liverpool will finish this season

Paul Merson predicts where Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham will finish in the Premier League table this season

Paul Merson has predicted that Arsenal will finish fourth in the Premier League table this season, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur close behind.

The Gunners are currently gearing up for the new campaign as they look to build on their second-placed finish under Arsene Wenger last season.

Arsenal kick off the Premier League campaign with a home clash against Liverpool at The Emirates on Sunday.

The north London side have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season under Wenger.

And Merson feels that the Gunners are poised to once again miss out on the title and just scrape Champions League qualification, while Liverpool and Tottenham will be pushing for top-four finishes.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said: “If Arsenal (fourth) had bought a world-class centre forward and centre half, I would have picked them for the title, but they haven’t.

“It would probably help them in the long term if they didn’t finish in the top four for one season because it would force them to make some changes – but I expect them to be around fourth.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Liverpool (fifth) finish in the top four and Tottenham (sixth) won’t be far off either because they already have a team while everybody else has had to buy a team.”
