Bastian Schweinsteiger has a message for Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney

Bastian Schweinsteiger sent a heartfelt message to Wayne Rooney as the Manchester United captain prepared to celebrate his testimonial.

The 30-year-old arranged for the Red Devils to take on Everton at Old Trafford in pre-season fixture on Wednesday night to celebrate his long career as a United player.

Rooney, who moved to United from Everton in a £25.6m deal in 2004, is preparing for his first season under new manager Jose Mourinho following Louis van Gaal’s dismissal in May.

Schweinsteiger is facing an uncertain future at United amid reports that the Germany midfielder has been told to train with the Under-21 side and has been put up for sale.

However, in spite of the uncertainty surrounding his own future, Schweinsteiger made sure to congratulate his United skipper Rooney on his special day.

Schweinsteiger posted the above photo and wrote the following caption:

“Great event for a special player and mate. Enjoy your testimonial at Old Trafford tonight, @waynerooney! @manchesterunited”

Schweinsteiger moved to United in a £6.7m deal from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich last summer after deciding to call time on a long distinguished career at Allianz Arena.
