The Blues made the breakthrough in their Premier League opener just after half-time when Hazard confidently converted a spot-kick following Michail Antonio’s foul.
Wales international James Collins levelled for the east London side with 13 minutes remaining to leave new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte facing a disappointing start.
However, Spain international Diego Costa scored an 89th-minute winner to salvage three points for Chelsea after an unconvincing home performance.
The former Lille man was replaced by Michy Batshuayi in the 85th minute and the Belgian forward took to his Instagram page to reflect on Chelsea’s 2-1 victory.
Hazard posted the above photo and wrote the following caption:
“Three points and on the scoresheet, it’s good to be back… Thank you everyone!! #PremierLeague #Chelsea #cfc”
The Chelsea forward scored four times in 31 Premier League appearances for the west London side last season.
Conte’s Blues side will make the short trip to London rivals Watford in their next Premier League game on Saturday afternoon.
