Antonio Valencia's motivation appears to be his birthday cake...
Antonio Valencia was the recipient of a tasty-looking cake from the Manchester United staff as the winger celebrated his 31st birthday on Thursday.
The Ecuador international has remained part of Jose Mourinho’s plans this summer after the former Real Madrid manager took over the reins at Old Trafford from Louis van Gaal.
Valencia experienced an injury-hit 2015/16 Premier League campaign which limited the midfielder to just 14 top-flight appearances.
However, the South American will be hoping to play a more active role in United’s first season under Mourinho as the Red Devils gear up for the clash against Leicester City in the Community Shield.
And Valencia was feeling motivated after receiving some love from United’s backroom staff after the versatile defender was presented with a 31st birthday cake, which the Ecuadorian posted on his Instagram page.
Valencia wrote on the photo-sharing app: “This really motivates me.”
United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table and outside the Champion League qualification sports.
The Red Devils start their top-flight campaign with a trip to Bournemouth on 14 August.
Mourinho has signed three players in the summer transfer window.
