Eric Bailly has expressed his pride at having the privilege of playing alongside one of Manchester United’s greatest-ever players in Wayne Rooney.

The England captain celebrated his outstanding career at Old Trafford on Wednesday night as the 30-year-old centre-forward arranged his testimonial game between Everton and United at Old Trafford.

The pre-season fixture presented Jose Mourinho’s new signings Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic with the chance to play in front of the Old Trafford crowd as United players for the first time.

The Ivory Coast international moved to the 20-time English champions in a £30m deal from La Liga side Villarreal in June as Bailly became the first signing of the Mourinho era at Old Trafford.

And the 24-year-old centre-half took to his Instagram page to reflect on his first appearance at the Theatre of Dreams and pay tribute to his new United captain Rooney.

Bailly posted the above photo on his Instagram page and wrote the following caption:

“First day at Old Trafford. What a feeling! 😄 Thank you. 🙏🏾 Great night for @WayneRooney. A pleasure to play with him.”
