Portugal defender keen on Man United transfer – report
Jose Fonte wants to move to Manchester United, according to reports in the British media
Jose Fonte is keen to move to Manchester United from Southampton in the summer transfer window, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Star are reporting that the Portugal international is interested in a move to the Red Devils this summer following his impressive Euro 2016 campaign.
The story, which was published on Tuesday morning, claims that United have held talks with Southampton over a £10m transfer for the experienced centre-half.
The same article also states that United would be willing to use Argentina international Marcos Rojo as a makeweight in a potential package to sign Fonte.
The 32-year-old was a key part of Portugal’s successful run to the European championship final in France this summer.
Cristiano Ronaldo and company were crowned European champions last month after a 1-0 extra-time victory over Euro 2016 hosts France.
Fonte has scored 15 goals in 267 appearances in all competitions for Southampton following his move to St Mary’s from Crystal Palace in 2009.
United were 3-1 winners in their opening Premier League fixture of the season after goals from Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
