Possible Liverpool boost as Serie A duo show interest in striker – report
Chievo and Sassuolo want to sign Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli, according to reports in Italy
Chievo and Sassuolo are preparing to battle it out for Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli as the Reds look to finally offload the flop, according to reports in Italy.
Gazzetta World are claiming that Sassuolo have entered the race to sign the Italy international after Chievo made their interest known earlier this month.
The Italian media publication quotes the cousin of Balotelli’s agent as confirming interest from Sassuolo as the centre-forward looks to resolve his future.
“It is true,” Renzo Raiola is quoted as saying by Gazzetta World.
“Sassuolo have thought about a move, but we are currently light years away from signing anything.
“Liverpool will only accept a certain fee. Unless that happens, there will be no deal reached before 31 August.”
Balotelli hasn’t made an appearance under Jurgen Klopp since the German was named as Brendan Rodgers’s successor last October.
The Italian striker spent the past season on loan at AC Milan but struggled to make an impression for the Serie A giants.
Klopp has made seven signings in the summer transfer window as Balotelli falls further down the pecking order at Anfield.
Loris Karius swapped Mainz for Liverpool in a £4.7m deal in May before Sadio Madio sealed a £30m transfer from Southampton in July.
Estonia captain Ragnar Klavan moved to Liverpool last month, too, before the Reds signed Alex Manninger and Georgino Wijnaldum on the same day.
Marko Grujic and Joel Matip have also been added to Klopp’s squad after agreeing deals earlier this year.
