Ray Parlour: How Alexis Sanchez can get best out of Arsenal striker
Ray Parlour wants to see Alexis Sanchez played in a more advanced role for Arsenal this season
Ray Parlour believes Alexis Sanchez can help Olivier Giroud reproduce his Euro 2016 form in the Premier League this season.
Arsenal have been linked with a number of potential centre-forward signings in the summer transfer window, although Arsene Wenger has only signed little-known Japanese forward Takuma Asano so far.
Olivier Giroud was criticised for his inconsistent performances in the Premier League last season despite scoring 16 times in 38 Premier League appearances.
But the France striker impressed alongside Antoine Griezmann at the European championship as the Atletico Madrid man supported Giroud in his role as Didier Deschamps’s main striker.
And former Arsenal midfielder Parlour believes Wenger should use Sanchez in an advanced position like Griezmann in order to get the best out of Giroud this season.
“There could be another option,” Parlour told Sky Sports News HQ.
“Alexis Sanchez could play a little bit higher like he does for Chile. He likes that. Whether Arsene Wenger will look at it and say Antoine Griezmann got the best out of Olivier Giroud and Oliver Giroud got the best out of Antoine Griezmann.
“Sanchez could play that Griezmann role for Arsenal.”
Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League last season as Wenger’s side hoisted themselves above Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the campaign.
The Gunners haven’t won the English top-flight crown since 2004 when Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry inspired Wenger’s side to title glory.
Arsenal start the new Premier League season with a home clash against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
