Ray Parlour: How new Man United signing will help Anthony Martial
The former Arsenal midfielder explains the impact Zlatan Ibrahimovic will have on the Man United squad
Ray Parlour has backed Zlatan Ibrahimovic to improve Manchester United strikers Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
The Swedish centre-forward completed a free transfer to the Red Devils in July after the 34-year-old opted to call time on his Paris Saint-Germain career after four successive Ligue 1 titles.
Ibrahimovic has already left his mark on United after the former AC Milan and Juventus striker scored their winner in a 2-1 victory over Premier League champions Leicester City in the Community Shield last weekend.
The former Sweden captain’s arrival means Martial and Rashford are facing increased competition for a starting spot ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League season.
However, Parlour believes the United youngster will be inspired by the prospect of playing alongside Ibrahimovic.
“He is a great signing for Man United. He was a no brainer really,” Parlour told Sky Sports News HQ.
“He will really help the youngsters as well like Martial and Rashford. They’ll look at him and think this is the level we have to get to.”
Ibrahimovic scored 38 times in 31 Ligue 1 games for PSG last season as Laurent Blanc’s side won the French top-flight crown.
The Swedish legend has won titles in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and France during a decorated playing career.
However, the new United striker has never won the Champions League despite playing for European greats like AC Milan and Barcelona.
